The Jean Monnet Programme - Experiences from the Philippines
The Jean Monnet Programme began in 1989, in order to financially support the teaching and research activities of higher education institutions and organisations that specialise in European affairs. This presentation provides a broad overview of the Programme, and recounts the experiences of the European Studies Program of the Ateneo de Manila University, in applying for, and implementing the Jean Monnet grants, which it first received in 2016, and again in 2020.

The presentation will shed light on various mechanisms for building higher education institutions’ sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems that were piloted in the framework of so-called BEEHIVE project funded under the Erasmus+ Programme for Capacity Building in Higher Education. The BEEHIVE initiative sees entrepreneurship not merely as individual efforts but as a process of networking and creating synergies between relevant stakeholders, including universities, enterprises, and policy makers thus taking a holistic view of the business environment and the societal, economic, and educational realities.
