  • the Institute of Physics in Opava

At the Silesian University, we inspire your growth and develop your natural creativity. Your successful future is our driving force!

We are open to the World

Would you like to study, work or carry out your research abroad? Our university cooperates with nearly 40 partner universities all around the world, providing ample opportunities for its students, whether it is via Erasmus+, or a number of other programs and individual scholarships. Students can spend a part of their studies at one of our partner universities in Europe, Russia, Japan or the USA!

Can Science be Fun?

The young people studying at our university with interest, vigour and eagerness to unravel mysteries and discover new things give an affirmative answer to the question. Students of postgraduate master programs as well as doctoral programs can participate in research activities and apply for a year-long scholarship in the Student Grant Competition.

Student Life

Every year, the University and the Student Union organize the rag day, university ball, various exhibitions, theatre festivals, concerts, beer marathon, film club, online streams and many other fun activities!

Opava: Modern and Exciting

The central town square resembles a beating heart, from which arteries of streets fan out in all directions and lead to parks with medieval monasteries and churches. Not only students find peace and quiet for reading, relaxation, but also entertainment in the shade of old trees. For those tired of the hustle and bustle of the town, there are numerous skating and cycling trails around the town.

Karviná, a bustling town...

Karviná is no longer a mining town. Today the town abounds with greenery, life and youth. The Castle Fryštát in the center of the town gives an evidence of the long town history. The town spa offers treatment to patients but also wellness. Karviná is a synonym for open air festivals, concerts, dance parties and various sports activities.

Buddy Program: Students helping Students

Each international student has a possibility to request a local student "buddy" who will help him/her with accommodating to a new environment and a new university! A buddy will pick you up the train station and explain how the public transportation works. Your buddy will also help you with check-in in the dorms and give you some tips on where to go and what to see in the first days. After that, it is all up to you, but the Buddy Program is known for making great friendships happen! :-)

Students with special needs

The Support Centre of our university provides social-psychological and special-educational services such as individual learning plans and assistance in typing or lecture-reporting. We provide the students with text zoomers, printing and scanning devices, portable CCTV magnifiers, voice recorders or readers. All of our buildings have a wheelchair access.

They're also able to develop healthy one-on-one mentoring relationships and offer insight and help in ways that would be impossible in a larger classroom.
