Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE)—in terms of student and staff numbers, quality of education and research, and its international relations—is the most prestigious public university in Budapest, Hungary, operating continuously since 1635.

As top-ranked research university in Hungary, it is the alma mater of five Nobel laureates and leading figures in technology, public policy, and culture in Hungary. Currently, about 30,000 students study at nine faculties and one individual institute, with about 3,000 international students from over 100 countries

ELTE has widespread international relations for cooperation and exchange all over the world, which offers a large number of possibilities for study-abroad semesters to Hungarian and international students at ELTE. The degree programs are accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee and course credits are transferable in all countries of the European Union.

Students at ELTE come from more than 100 different countries. As a trusted partner of nearly 500 higher education establishments and an active member of 9 prestigious international university organizations, we have strong connections all over the world.

By means of our outstanding programs such as Erasmus, CEEPUS and bilateral cooperations, more than 1000 of our students go abroad or come from abroad each year.

Learning from the best

ELTE regularly plays host to a number of international conferences and puts special emphasis on inviting leading researchers of various fields to intensive workshops and lecture series.

Joint programs

The EIT Digital Master School Program and the Master’s Program in History at the Atelier Department of the Faculty of Humanities (the first Erasmus Mundus program coordinated by a Hungarian university) are two outstanding examples of our programs offering certifications in collaboration with the best European universities.
